Scouts’ push to raise last £50,000

1st Goostrey Scouts has launched a New Year push to raise the last £50,000 for the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre.

Group Scout Leader, David Giles, said “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the local people, who have all shown support for this community facility, which should be completed by May. I was humbled, for example, to receive an unexpected Christmas £5,000 donation for the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre from an anonymous donor. This was delivered by the Scout post on Christmas Eve, and was followed, in January, by a generous cheque from Goostrey Methodist Church towards the new building.”

Having raised a total of £220,000 the Scouts still need to raise a final £50,000 to meet the revised total of £270,000 for the build costs of the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre – and are hoping local residents, businesses and organisations will continue their generous support.

The costs of construction have increased since the original budget due including a disabled lift and the inclusion of a mezzanine floor, which will offer an additional meeting room available for hire by local organisations. The long term lease on additional land around the building also led to increased costs but provide for additional parking and a larger outdoor activity area.

The Scouts’ Buy a Brick Campaign has raised about £3,000 so far but paving bricks are still available and local families and organisations are being urged to submit their final applications by the deadline of 10 February:

1st Goostrey Scouts is creating a “Sponsors’ Path” leading up to the front door of the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre. Sponsors are invited to buy paving bricks for £25 each – and may have their name or a message engraved on them. Each brick will be a permanent reminder of the contribution sponsors have made to help fund the new Scout Hut and Youth Centre for the young people of Goostrey. Forms are available at the Trading Post and Goostrey News in Goostrey, or may be downloaded from the Love Goostrey Website at scouts-engraved-paving-brick .

As in the last two years – when this event has proved a very successful fundraiser – we ask friends and neighbours to be generous in sponsoring our keen local cyclists

Saturday 15 July – Goostrey Summer Ball 2017

1st Goostrey Scouts is delighted to be working with the PTA of Goostrey Community Primary School in organising a Summer Ball on Saturday 15th July 2017 at Hollins Farm. The proceeds from this event will be split equally between the two organisations, thus ensuring that the whole village youth community benefits from the event.

The Scouts are hoping to attract £ for £ match funding for the event, and are appealing to any local resident who works for an organisation, that can provide this type of funding, to email Group Scout Leader David Giles as soon as possible – david.giles@shell.com
